 Vintage Floral Fancies

Nothing says La Vie en Rose like Springtime in Paris when the city blossoms with pretty flowers. Balconies, parks and markets fill with the colours and perfumes of magnolias, peonies, and roses. In this embroidery course we will be immersed in the cheerful world of floral printed linens and cottons, creating an embroidered garden filled with delicately stitched petals and foliage.

Course Description

In this masterclass Rebecca will begin with an inspiring presentation about historical and contemporary embroidery artists, encouraging you to explore and develop your own creativity. Before moving to Paris, Rebecca was an award-winning Art teacher and she will share her love of beauty with an introduction to colour theory. You will learn how to use this knowledge to design your own gorgeous colour schemes with confidence. No more hesitating over which colour, shade, tint or tone of embroidery floss to use!

Following on from this you will enjoy the pleasures of selecting a printed fabric to embroider and learn about motifs, repeat patterns and scale. This process is crucial to avoid starting enormous projects that you never finish! Next you will learn about texture, how to visualise and then render it in embroidery stitches. You will learn how to use your Dictionary of Stitches sampler to create a design to embroider your own lovely printed fabric.

The course also includes an introduction to needle-painting, how to paint with your embroidery thread using the humble long-and-short stitch. With examples of both traditional and contemporary techniques, you will learn how to develop your own style and be encouraged to choose what you enjoy doing most, exploring your own personal creative journey. A little bit of sparkle can illuminate an embroidery when used correctly! You will learn when to apply metallic threads, beads and sequins to accentuate the light, colour and stitches in your embroidery. Rebecca will present the beautiful work of former students and you will learn how to evaluate your own work, adding those tiny finishing touches to create harmony and balance. Throughout the course, Rebecca will share tips and tricks about Art, Embroidery and Design and by the end, you will be delighted to discover that you have learned how to design beautiful embroideries using your own favourite printed fabrics as a pattern.

This masterclass is ideal for those who have completed A Brief Dictionary of Stitches, A Thrilling Thesaurus of Stitches or Embellished Details - and are wondering what comes next in their embroidered adventure! If you have a cherished stash of gorgeous printed fabrics, then this will be the ideal course to embroider and embellish the beautiful designs that you have adored over the years!
