Vintage Floral Fancies - Grand Trianon - Royal Blue
This gorgeous Boussac cotton was printed in the 1950s, with bouquets of cornflowers and roses, framed by twirling columns of ribbon, and it’s an homage to the celebrated royal embroidery designer, Jean François Bony. His sumptuous embroidered embellishments adorned the extravagant costumes worn to elegant soirées at the Château de Versailles and garden parties at the Grand Trianon in the 18th century. It’s no wonder that Boussac, the fabric printing company that financed Christian Dior to establish his legendary fashion house, recognised the timeless beauty of this design almost 200 years later. I was so, so excited when I discovered the this fabric at the Flea Market in Paris, not only because there were three stunning selections of colours, but also because the story traces all the way back to Marie Antoinette, Versailles and the Trianon!
Grand Trianon is available in three gorgeous colour ways; Royal Blue, Charmed Delights and Promenades in Pink. The only challenge will be choosing which one is your favourite! Royal Blue has a lovely selection of cornflower blues, verdant greens and buttery yellow, ideal for embellishing the bouquets and ribbons.
